Experience at ACAP:
It took me just over five years to complete the 24 modules for the Advanced Diploma of Applied Social Science and I graduated in 2001.  I did every module at the Sydney Campus, and out of those 288 tutorials, I think I only missed two!

I loved my ACAP learning - it was wonderful!  I really enjoyed the interactive nature of it and the sharing of experiences with other like-minded, mature-aged students.  There were a couple of trainers who I believe were a little less professional and polished than they should have been, but both were not invited back as a result of student feedback, so that was gratifying!

There are still many ACAP modules that I would love to do, but as I have been self-employed for the last three years, I felt I couldn't really justify the time.  Hopefully, one day soon I will be in a position to return.

How personally and or professionally benefitted from study at ACAP:
As a result of my fieldwork placement with Reddin Consulting Group, I was able to pursue my interest in career counselling.  After my six month (2 days per week) placement, Reddin offered me full-time employment so I was able to transfer industries.  I stayed with them for over two years, then a colleague and I left to start our own career consultancy.

How used qualifications since graduation:
I gained valuable experience in my chosen field of career counselling as a result of being offered permanent employment by the company I completed my fieldwork assignment with.  I have been self-employed for three years now - two and a half with a partner and six months by myself.

Description of services: Our company's motto is Care ... Learn ... Motivate and we provide corporate training in "soft" professional skills around better communication, leadership development and improving the workplace.  Our workshops are offered in the public arena as well as in-house, and are designed to assist employees to achieve their fullest career potential.  Further, we partner with employer of choice organsiations and offer "career EAPs" to their high-potential staff, as we recognise that employers do not want to lose their best people.
