Growing Professionalism

Over the past five years, initiatives at both the state and federal level have led to dramatic changes in counselling and psychotherapy in order to assure the public that their service provider meets recognised standards of training, professional accountability and regulation of therapeutic practice.

The College continues to be a part of those changes and has supported the establishment of a national body - the Psychotherapy & Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). ACAP offers five programs that meet the national training standards that PACFA has established. For more information on PACFA visit www.pacfa.org.au.

Gain skills in Supervision

If you want a career as a well-qualified and professional counsellor then enrolling in an accredited ACAP program is the first step.

Those practising without recognised qualifications, professional membership or ongoing supervision and professional development are unlikely to survive in an industry where the public and government increasingly demand accountability and high standards of professional practice.

Professional Development

The responsible management of people often involves the application of counselling skills. The College attracts frontline managers, financial advisers, teachers, sales managers, customer relations professionals and management consultants who have discovered that their professional expertise alone is not always enough to meet the demands of the job or the needs of the clients they service. By undertaking ACAP modules, specific skill needs can be addressed.

Personal Development

The College attracts many people wanting to study for personal development. When you choose to invest in yourself in this way, there are many rewards. Our students list personal development as the number one benefit of an ACAP education and find that studying at the College leads to many positive life changes.

Studying with ACAP has given me the skills and confidence to get out there and start my own practice, which has been a goal for quite a while! I also intend to develop my groupwork skills so I can run groups for people with depression and anxiety.
