Fieldwork

Fieldwork provides students with a challenging opportunity to further develop, fine-tune and integrate their skills within a supervised workplace context. It is also an invaluable opportunity for students to network with peers and prospective employers.

Students find that fieldwork helps them secure employment opportunities and many of the College's students have gained employment as a direct result of their placement.

Students undertaking a Diploma or higher qualification can expect the course to include at least 140 hours of workplace based fieldwork, which is undertaken after you have completed the first six modules of your course. Some courses require students to complete more than one Fieldwork placement, which enables you to explore different types of workplaces and practices.

The Fieldwork team provides support to help students choose an organisation that will provide maximum learning opportunities in their area of interest.

The College has relationships with more than 1000 organisations around Australia that accept ACAP students.

Students have undertaken placements in a wide range of industries, organisations and sectors. These include:

  • alcohol and other drugs;
  • career and personnel counselling;
  • change management;
  • working with children;
  • family and relationship counselling;
  • crisis and trauma counselling;
  • human resource management;
  • life and corporate coaching;
  • sports counselling;
  • stress and performance management; and
  • youth services.

A special arrangement exists with Lifeline Sydney in the provision of a face-to-face counselling clinic for graduates of the Graduate Diploma of Counselling.

Note for Organisations: If you would like to benefit from having mature motivated students complete their placement with your organisation please email fieldwork@acap.edu.au

The dedication of educators combined with a curriculum that is so experiential gave me confidence to establish a private practice drawing on my previous professional and personal experience. My work is split between two passions, providing grief counselling to men who have partners with cancer and corporate coaching to middle managers, as individuals and in groups, to assist them become more effective people managers.
