Library

The College provides access to library collections and services at each of its campuses. Librarians are available at each campus to assist students with their information and research needs. Computer, printing and photocopying facilities are available at all ACAP libraries. Sydney library staff are able to assist Distance Education and Online students by email or phone. ACAP Library is a member of the UNILINC network.

The library catalogue is available online at: http://bonza.unilinc.edu.au/acp

A postal borrowing service is available to Distance Education and Online students. These students should contact the Sydney library directly by phone or email. Please note: library items are not sent outside Australia.

E-library services

Students can renew books and place hold requests online. To access your own record go to the library catalogue, click 'Sign-in' then the letters AP followed by your student number. The PIN is the last five digits of your Student Card barcode.

The College library subscribes to three full-text online databases; EBSCO Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Collection, EBSCO Business Source Elite, and INFOTRAC Custom Journal 250 and a number of e-books in the Gale Virtual Reference Library. Current students can access these online resources through the Student Resources Centre.

Borrowing from ACAP libraries

To borrow from an ACAP library, on-campus students must have an ACAP Student Card. Distance Education and Online students need to complete an Online and Distance Library Registration Form and return the form by post, fax, or in person to the Sydney library.

Loans

Students in undergraduate or diploma programs can borrow 5 items for a period of 2 weeks.

Distance Education and Online students can borrow 5 items for 3 weeks.

Masters students can borrow 6 items for a period of 1 month.

Loan Renewals

Items can be renewed a maximum of 4 times (except for items on hold for other students). Renewals can be placed on overdue items.

To renew items, log-in to the library catalogue, click on 'User', then 'Loans', tick the relevant check-boxes and click 'Renew selected'.

Hold requests

Hold requests can be placed on books out on loan and when no other copy is available on the shelf. Once logged-in to the library catalogue, click on the book name and then 'Request'. When the item is returned it is put aside and the student is notified by email that it is ready for pick-up or delivery to Distance and Online students.

Overdue notices and fines

Courtesy notices are emailed to students 2 days before an item is due, followed by notices at 4 and 14 days overdue.

A block is put on borrowing rights (including renewals) when fines reach $100. To reinstate borrowing rights a minimum of $30 must be paid and fines must be reduced below $100. Outstanding fines or bills for replacement can impact on graduation or course progression.

1 - 4 days overdue: no fines apply. Renewals can be placed on overdue books in this period with no penalty.

5 + days overdue: charge is $1 a day per item.

When a book is 21 days overdue a bill for replacement is issued. Replacement of items is charged at a flat rate of $80 + $20 processing fee (+GST) per item. Accrued fines remain payable on replaced items.

A claim and appeal against the imposition of library fines can made by filling in a Request for Fines Exemption form and returning it to library staff.

Inter-library loans

Inter-library loans (ILL) are available at no charge to on-campus ACAP students from libraries in the UNILINC network. The ACAP Library is unable to offer this service to Distance and Online students. To search for items in the UNILINC network use the UNILINC Shared Catalogue. Postgraduate and Masters students can also obtain ILLs from non-UNLINC libraries.

To obtain an ILL, complete an ILL Request Form and return it to the library.

Students requiring assistance with ILLs should contact their campus library.
