Managers and Strategic Work-Based Learning

Module Synopsis

This module focuses on managers as life-long learners and as facilitators of individual and organisational learning. Managers will explore practical ways of working with adults in organisational contexts holistically, utilising the resources of adult education theory and practice. Employing principles of adult learning within their own organisational context (whether public, private or non-profit) will enable managers to contribute to individual and organisational transformation and effectiveness.

Learning outcomes
  • Identify and critically appropriate key elements of adult education theory and practice
  • High-level self-awareness in relation to own learning style, needs and goals
  • Critical analysis of the literature on Learning Organisations
  • Integration of self-awareness, organisational analysis and understanding of contemporary society
  • Enhanced skills for promoting, facilitating, planning and managing learning strategies in the workplace
  • Evaluation of organisational learning strategies in the light of contemporary approaches to ethics in organisational settings

Module Duration and Workload:
This module involves a total of 36 hours of face to face delivery or self-directed study including educator contact in flexible delivery modes, generating a further 120 hours of self-study per module including research and related study activities, including assessment. This translates as 13 hours per week for the module.
