Performance Management

This module looks at what is required to design, implement and oversee a performance management. It begins by discussing the major purpose of implementing a performance management system, which is to align employee jobs and efforts with the strategic business objectives of an organisation. It outlines how to design jobs so they help to achieve corporate objectives, the different types of performance management system, performance appraisal including strategies for giving feedback and performing intervention associated with underperformance and misconduct, and ways of linking performance to remuneration and benefits and to training and development. It also describes the outsourcing of some performance management functions, as well as ways to evaluate the effectiveness of a performance management system.

Module Duration and Workload

This module involves a total of 60 hours per term of study including a course work component, educator contact, research and related study activities, translating to approximately 5 hours of study per week. Students will need to allocate additional time for the completion of assessment activities related to the module.
