Responsible Ethical Counselling
This module is designed to provide you with an introduction to the delivery of an ethical and legal counselling service, and to ensure client rights are protected. It will also provide you with the basic competencies required by community service workers to recognise and respond appropriately to signs and symptoms that indicate individuals may be at risk. Skills and knowledge developed in this module are intended to be applied in delivery of an ethical and legal counselling service, and to ensure client rights are protected in formal helping roles in any community service context or where caregivers encounter persons at risk.

- Know the rights and responsibilities of client and counsellor
- Identify issues that may impact on the client-counsellor relationship
- Identify and manage immediate risk in the context of a supportive helping relationship
- Provide appropriate referral for crisis intervention and ongoing support as required

Module Duration and Workload
This module involves a total of 96 hours per term of study including course work component, educator contact, research related study activities, translating to approximately 8 hours study per week. Students will need to allocate additional time for the completion of assessment activities related to the module.
