Studying flexibly through online or distance modes is based on the principles of self directed learning, which is facilitated by experienced educators. Students take on the responsibility for their own learning using the materials and resources provided by the College and their educator.
Each class group has a dedicated on-line class space, in which students interact with their class mates and educator. The online 'virtual' class room is a central area where students access important information and educator announcements, connect with other students via the discussion forums and submit their assessments.
Students who study flexibly are provided with comprehensive and interactive course materials and resources for each module they study. Within the materials you'll find a range of exercises, activities, textbook references, bibliographies and self-assessments so you can fully understand the theory, and practise your skills through exercises and activities. Divided into 12 sections to correspond with the 12 week term, students work their way through the materials, one section per week. See more details at the ACAP Workload page
Students who study some modules by Flexible Delivery may be required to attend on campus workshops. For more details please see the 'Workshop Info Page'

ACAP uses assessments to determine if you've achieved the required level of understanding and experience. Assessments combine theory and practice and vary depending on the qualification you take. Some of the more common assessment types at ACAP include interviews, videotaped role-plays, self-critiques, essays, journals, projects and presentations. There are usually two to three assessments for each module.
The Bachelor of Applied Social Science and the Graduate Diploma of Counselling both include student placements which must be completed before you can graduate. Student placements are periods of (generally unpaid) work experience which are built into your qualification to ensure that you have the practical skills and experience to enter the workforce one you have completed your qualification.
