Master of Psychology (Clinical)

The MPsych(Clin) provides a 5th and 6th year sequence of professional training in psychology required for general registration as a psychologist in Australia. The course is recognised by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS) College of Clinical Psychologists and is accredited with the NSW Department of Education and Communities. Graduates of this course will be eligible for endorsement as clinical psychologists after completing a further two years of supervised full-time equivalent practice.

Students in the MPsych(Clin) study specialist areas of clinical psychology as well as developing skills and knowledge in core professional areas. The course is sequenced to promote an integration of knowledge and skill development.

The MPsych(Clin) includes coursework, independent research leading to the submission of a thesis and practical placements. Students complete a minimum of 1000 hours of practical/skills training at our on-campus clinic as well as external locations.

Entry requirementsSuccessfully completed a four year sequence in psychology accredited with the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council within the last 10 years with a minimum grade of second class Honours (2A) and be eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia as a provisional psychologist
OR
Currently registered as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and meet the Board's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.

  • provide academic transcripts
  • provide referee reports from at least two referees

Job Outlook notes that job prospects for psychologists are good, with strong growth in employment expected to 2015-16.
