Module Synopsis

This module offers students the opportunity to pursue their interest in management studies by examining the theories, principles, and processes associated with strategic management and planning. It looks at issues such as effective strategy and planning, the operationalisation of strategies, and the cultural dimensions of strategic management. It considers the different forms of management strategy, how these strategies are put into practice and how they are evaluated.

  • Describe the theories and principles that attach to strategic management
  • Distinguish between the various approaches to strategic planning and select the most appropriate method in any given environment
  • Develop critical analyses of both internal and external management environments
  • Conduct effective strategic planning exercises
  • Discuss the metrics and indicators that organisations can adopt to monitor organisational performance
  • Effectively research, evaluate, and communicate management information

Module Duration and Workload:
This module involves a total of 36 hours of face to face delivery or self-directed study including educator contact in flexible delivery modes, generating a further 120 hours of self-study per module including research and related study activities, including assessment. This translates as 13 hours per week for the module.
