Mindfulness for Anxiety and Depression Group
The ACAP Psychology Clinic is currently recruiting participants for all groups.
Mindfulness is an evidence-based approach that incorporates aspects of Eastern philosophy and Western psychology to help people better manage their distressing thoughts and feelings. To provide psycho-education and skills development for people who currently, or have previously, experienced Anxiety or Depression.
Participants and Group Membership
Adults 18 years and older who currently, or have previously, experienced Anxiety and/or Depression and who are currently motivated to actively engage with professional psychological help. To decide if the group may be suitable for you, ask yourself:
- Do you currently experience, or have you previously experienced, anxiety or depression?
- Would you like to learn skills that may help you cope with and improve your anxiety or depression?
Participants are selected after an individual assessment. The group will have between 6 and 10 members.
- Learn about the Mindfulness Approach to Anxiety and Depression
- Improve coping skills for difficult emotions and distressing thoughts, feelings and sensations.
Format and Interventions
When the group commences membership will be closed and no new members will be admitted. The group is conducted in an interactive seminar format, with provision of information, discussion, skill development/feedback and homework practice. The group is based on Mindfulness and Cognitive Behaviour therapy principles.
Schedule and Location
The program involves 8 X 2 hour weekly group meetings at the ACAP Psychology Clinic. The ACAP Psychology Clinic is a not-for-profit psychology training clinic located above Wynyard Station in the Sydney CBD.
Clinical Psychologist Vanessa Beavan and two Provisionally Registered Psychologists undertaking postgraduate training at the ACAP Psychology Clinic. You can contact Dr Vanessa Beavan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Costs to Participants
There is an enrolment fee of $40 covering the participant workbook, materials and refreshments payable at the time of enrolment. Group sessions are free of charge.

The Mindfulness for Anxiety and Depression Group will be evaluated through individual clinical interviews; self-report questionnaires; feedback on the group content and presentation.
