Forgetting and remembering childhood sexual abuse:
Essential knowledge to inform safe therapeutic practice with clients
During the 1980s and early 1990s reports of clients forgetting and remembering historical sexual abuse emerged into the public arena. What resulted was one of the most controversial topics in psychological history. Debates were so fierce that some authors called it a ‘war’.
This presentation will take a retrospective look at the history, the debates, and the findings that emerged during this early period. Subsequently, it will focus on current thinking, with particular emphasis on what is considered best practice when a therapist suspects childhood sexual abuse may have been forgotten by a client.
This workshop is designed to:
• Develop your understanding of the controversies
• Provide guidance for practice
By attending this event you will receive a certificate crediting you with 2.5 PD hours.
