Vocational Training

Vocational and Education Training (VET) can be either post secondary or secondary and aims to prepare students for a particular area of work. VET courses are traditionally non-academic and related to a particular occupation or vocation. VET courses focus on teaching students the skills needed for a particular vocation so that you develop expertise in a particular group of techniques or technology.

VET courses in Australia are regulated by the Government and offered under a national scheme which outlines a series of training packages. This results in courses that are nationally recognised and designed to specifically meet the needs of industry. For a full list of approved training packages click here.

Higher education

Higher education is post secondary education that leads to undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

Higher education meets a wide range of needs including the acquisition of a broad body of knowledge at Bachelor and Graduate Diploma level, through to ongoing professional development at Masters level to the contribution of significant and original new knowledge at a Doctoral level.

Higher education offered at a university is generally theoretically based. Higher education offered at ACAP is a combination of both theory and practice. At the higher education level ACAP offers a:

  • Bachelor of Applied Social Science for those who have not studied a higher education program previously,
  • Graduate Diploma of Counselling for those who have completed a Bachelors degree and want to gain broad knowledge in the area of counseling, 
  • Master of Applied Social Science for those who have completed a Bachelors degree and want to gain specialised knowledge in the area of people management or counselling.
