This degree is accredited by the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), the peak body for counselling and psychotherapy in Australia, and gives you the practical skills and theoretical foundation you need to work as a counsellor.

ACAP’s Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling) is a specialisation of our Bachelor of Applied Social Science.   All students of the Bachelor of Applied Social Science enrol in a common first year, which is made up of nine core units. Students may then choose to specialise in Counselling, Coaching or complete the degree without specialising.

The Bachelor of Applied Social Science degree, and the specialisations in Coaching and Counselling, all include professional placements in the second and third year of the course. Students in the Counselling specialisation need to complete a minimum of 400 hours of counselling with clients linked to 10 hours of supervision to meet the PACFA Training Standards.

 

Entry Criteria/Prerequisites

  • An ATAR or equivalent of 65 OR
  • Mature aged entry (21 years or over) – submit a 150 word statement that satisfies the College as to your ability and aptitude to successfully undertake study of this type and level

Requirements to specialise in counselling:

  • Satisfactory completion of 5 units of the ACAP Bachelor of Applied Social Science AND
  • Completion of an assessment of readiness for the Counselling Profession

ACAP’s Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling) is available on-campus in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne, or by online delivery. You can also study the Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling) in mixed mode, a combination of online delivery and on-campus study.

Study Modes

On-campus study requires you to attend one three hour class per week for each of the modules or units you are studying. Classes provide an interactive and hands-on experience, which allows your teacher to provide immediate feedback on your work in class.

Online delivery
With online delivery you can study anywhere, anytime. All classes have an online class space containing course materials, discussion forums and announcements, student profiles and assessment drop boxes and are accessible to the class group and the teacher.

Mixed mode
Studying in mixed mode allows you to combine on-campus study and online delivery to create a study mode that fits your lifestyle.  You can select different modes of study for different units in a given term and you can change the mode of study you select when you enrol each term.

Fees

Cost per unit is AU$1810 (x24 units) for domestic students. For international student fees, click here.
FEE-HELP is available to eligible students for the Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Counselling). If you are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa you are eligible to receive FEE-HELP.
