VET Diploma Level Subject

This subject is designed to provide you with the awareness, skills and knowledge required to identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace, model cultural safety in own work practice, and to work respectfully with culturally diverse clients and co-workers. Skills and knowledge developed in this subject are intended to be applied in a variety of workplace contexts.

Learning Elements

The unit of competency CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people contains four elements or learning outcomes. You will learn to:

  • Reflect on own perspectives
  • Appreciate diversity and inclusiveness and their benefits
  • Communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and situations
  • Promote understanding across diverse groups

The unit of competency CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety contains four elements or learning outcomes. You will learn to:

  • Identify cultural safety issues in the workplace
  • Model cultural safety in own work
  • Develop strategies for improved cultural safety
  • Evaluate cultural safety strategies

Subject Duration and Workload

This subject involves a total of 132 hours per term of study including course work component, teacher contact, research and related study activities, translating to approximately 11 hours of study per week. Students will need to allocate additional time for the completion of assessment activities related to the subject.
