Diploma of Counselling (CHC51015)

On completion of this qualification, students are eligible to transition into the following ACAP Higher Education Courses;

  • Bachelor of Applied Social Science,
  • Bachelor of Counselling (Coaching) or
  • Bachelor of Psychological Science.

VET transitioning learners to higher education courses within ACAP can access the complimentary VET to higher education Transition Support Workshops. For further details, refer to ACAP's Student Learning Support website at http://learning The graduates of the CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling will be able to articulate into the second year of the Bachelor of Counselling, the Bachelor of Counselling (Coaching) or the Bachelor of Psychological Science offered at ACAP with up to 25% of the course credited by their study in the Diploma.

Careers following the Diploma of Counselling (CHC51015)

This qualification reflects the role of counsellors, who work with clients on personal and psychological issues using established counselling modalities. They use communication, micro-counselling and interviewing skills and draw on varied counselling therapies to assist clients. At this level, the counsellor will be working in defined and supported counselling roles in established agencies in the Community Services and Health Services sectors rather than in independent practice. Graduates will find employment in the following roles within the Community Services Industry:

  • Crisis intervention worker
  • Phone counsellor
  • Counsellor
  • Therapeutic Services Coordinator
  • Family support worker
  • Mental health support worker
  • Residential Support Worker
