You Make a Difference This Christmas

Greetings Everyone

Leading into the end of the year is typically a festive and happy time for most. However, there are many people doing it tough who rely on food relief to get by.

To help make a difference to those in need this Christmas, the Brisbane Campus have organised Foodbank QLD boxes around the campus should you like to make a contribution by donating 1 or 2 ‘long shelf life’ items of food.

Donation boxes can be found in the following locations:
• Ground floor library
• Ground floor staff kitchen
• Level 2 staff kitchen

Foodbank is the largest hunger relief organisation in Queensland and across the country, which acts as a pantry to 2,500 welfare agencies nationally.

The facts on hunger in Australia:
• 1 in 6 people report having experienced food insecurity in the last year
• 2 million people seek food relief each year
• 644,000 people receive food relief from Foodbank agencies every month
• 33% of those are children (216,000)
• 43,000 people are turned away every month because of food shortages (14,600 of these are children)

Some statistics on people in need in Queensland:
• 21,000 people are currently homeless in Queensland
• 580,825 Queenslanders live below the poverty line
• 10.9% of children live in poverty
• 1 in 4 pensioners live in or close to poverty
• 25% of households located in disadvantaged areas of Brisbane are food insecure

Donations will close Friday, 9 December 2016, for collection by Foodbank on Monday 12 December, 2016 so they can be redistributed in time for Christmas to individuals needing it most.

Thank you for your support.

Things to remember -

Cathedral Parking

Dear students,

Navitas Professional Institute (NPI) would like to remind students that it is not appropriate to park in the St John s Cathedral Carpark across the road from campus. Cathedral staff have made it clear that they actively implement their tow-away policy and that no further warning will be given.

If you wish to drive in to campus you can find parking details for the Cathedral Square Carpark here. Central train station is also just a short walk away from campus and there are many bus routes that go past our college.

Thank you,

NPI Administration - Brisbane
