The three easy steps that you need to complete in order to apply for admission to a course with ACAP are outlined below. Please read this information carefully as information required for completion of an application varies depending on the course that you apply for.
Step 1
For the Master of Psychology (Clinical), Graduate Diploma of Professional Psychology, Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) and Graduate Diploma of Psychology, please download and complete the Application Form.
For all other courses complete the Online Application Form.
If applying for:
- The Diploma of Counselling or the Diploma of Community Services (Case Management) you require either a Certificate IV qualification (or at least one unit of competency at AQF level 4) OR the HSC OR to undertake the VET Entry Assessment.
- The Bachelor of Applied Social Science, the Graduate Diploma of Counselling, the Graduate certificate in Elite Athlete Mentoring, the Graduate Diploma of Elite Athlete Mentoring or the Master of Applied Social Science submit a 150 word statement written in English, describing how your interest in the course relates to your career aspirations. You can either upload this when you complete the online enrolment form or you can submit this separately via email or fax.
- The Bachelor of Psychological Science or Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science, if and you are a Mature Age student (over 21), you also need to provide a 500 word statement. The purpose of the statement is to provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate your understanding of the knowledge and skills needed for the completion of a Psychology degree and how completion of the degree will assist you to achieve your career and academic goals. Your statement provides the School with an opportunity to assess:
1. your understanding of the discipline of psychology, and of the characteristics of psychology education;
2. your ability to distinguish between what is required to pursue a career in psychology compared to related fields, such as counselling;
3. your ability to write with clarity of expression.
Mature age students will also be required to complete a brief telephone interview with academic staff from the school of Psychological Sciences based on the statement provided.
Step 2
Either upload scanned certified copies of supporting documents OR submit copies of certified documents via email or fax. Certified copies of the supporting documents need to be supplied to ACAP before your application can be processed. If your documentation is in a language other than English a certified English translation must be included along with the original. If any of your documentation refers to you using a different name, then certified proof of your change of name must also be supplied.
Counselling Courses
Diploma and Bachelor of Applied Social Science applicants:
- Proof of age (this can be a birth certificate, passport or drivers license), and
- If under 21 years copies of your highest school results
Graduate Diploma of Counselling and Master of Applied Social Science Counselling applicants:
- Copies of any academic transcripts
- Master applicants also need to submit an up-to-date CV
Psychology Courses
Bachelor of Psychological Science applicants:
- School leavers: If applying before your ATAR is available a copy of your most recent school report.
Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours), Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science and Graduate Diploma of Psychology applicants:
- Certified copies of all qualifications
Graduate Diploma of Professional Psychology and Master of Psychology (Clinical) applicants:
- academic transcripts from all institutions where you have studied other than ACAP. Certified copies will be required to be submitted prior to interview;
- brief curriculum vitae
A brief curriculum vitae (maximum two (2) pages) that provides information about your experience in psychology. This may include: professional registration and memberships; paid and / or voluntary professional experience; other professional ser vice (e.g., delivering a workshop or ser ving as an of fice bearer for an organisation) ; professional development activities (e.g., workshops and conferences attended) ; publications and conference presentations. Please provide details about all activities and experience (e.g., year, duration) - statement about your reasons for undertaking this program of study A brief statement in English (approximately 500 words) detailing: why you want to undertake the graduate program at ACAP; your previous research experience (e.g., honours thesis research); a self-assessment of your personal strengths and weaknesses for under taking study and work as a psychologist including the basis for your evaluation; for applicants to the MPsych(Clin) only, the area you would like to investigate for your thesis research.
- Ensure that two referees complete and submit a Confidential Referee's Report so that it arrives at the address below by the closing date for applications.

Two referee's reports must be submitted to the School of Psychological Sciences to support your application. At least one must be from an academic psychologist who has taught you and can comment directly on your academic ability. Referees may also be super visors from your paid or voluntar y workplace (if your work is relevant to psychology) or a health professional that you have worked with in collecting data for a research thesis. Please ask your referees to complete the Confidential Referees Report using the attached form and then print, sign and mail/fax the report so that it arrives at the address on the Referees' Report by the closing date for applications. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed two to three weeks after the closing date for applications.
Additional Course Requirements
- Successful completion of a National Criminal History record check;
- Successful completion of a Working with Children check;
- Compliance with NSW Health Department advice: 'Occupational Screening and Vaccination Against Infectious Diseases', available on the NSW Health Department website: http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/policies/pd/2007/PD2007_006.html
Elite Athlete Mentoring Courses
Graduate Certificate in Elite Athlete Mentoring and Graduate Diploma of Elite Athlete Mentoring
- Copies of all qualifications
- A current copy of your CV
Copies of documents can be certified by:
- A justice of the peace,
- An authorized ACAP representative, or
- A Lawyer / Solicitor, Police Officer, Teacher or University Professor

When will we get back to you?
If you have applied for:
- One of our Diploma's, the Bachelor of Applied Social Science, the Graduate Diploma of Counselling or the Master of Applied Social Science, your application is sent through with all required documents and you meet the entry requirements, you will receive a Letter of Acceptance from ACAP, within approximately 10 days, explaining the course you have been offered, the fees payable and the commencement date.
- Our Bachelor of Psychological Science, Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science, Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours), Graduate Diploma of Psychology, Graduate Certificate in Elite Athlete Mentoring, and Graduate Diploma in Elite Athlete Mentoring your application will be considered by a panel of staff from the School of Psychological Sciences who will contact you directly about your application.
