ACAP representatives appointed to the APS Sydney Committee

ACAP Head of the School of Psychological Sciences, Professor Mike Innes has been appointed to the Committee of the Sydney Branch of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), effective July 2013.

Two postgraduate students in the School of Psychological Sciences have also been co-opted on to the Committee; Yvette Aiello and Lara Kocijen. Yvette and Lara are two out of only four students now on the APS Sydney Branch organising committee.

“The committee is aimed at adding a student voice to the Sydney branch of the APS,” said Lara. “The local branches provide events and support to psychologists in that area, and this new representation is aiming to increase student participation in the APS.”

The two ACAP Masters students will be involved in a Branch initiative to hold a student conference on pathways to registration for psychologists. They hope to disseminate more widely the barriers that exist in psychology programs, at the end of 3rd year and the end of 4th year that hinder progress towards registration.

“I'm hoping to achieve successful events for students, increase student awareness for and participation in the APS  - while of course networking and developing a greater understanding for the processes and activities of the Sydney branch of APS.”
