Welcome to the School of Psychological Sciences at ACAP

At ACAP we have been specialising in educating students in areas of study that draw on psychology for over 25 years. In an exciting development in 2009, ACAP established the School of Psychological Sciences with the specific purpose of training psychologists through offering a range of courses in psychology. Psychology involves the study of human behaviour, thinking and emotions. The theories and findings of psychology apply to everyday human experience in families, communities, workplaces, and schools and to unusual human experiences, such as experiences of violence or natural disasters.

The staff of the School of Psychological Sciences have extensive teaching experience in psychology and their research interests span the specialties of psychology. They have in common a passion for psychology education and for applying the findings of empirical research to understanding the issues that face people at an individual, family and community level. The next few years will be exciting for the School as we continue to grow, attracting students who bring energy and dedication to their studies in psychology and additional staff with high levels of commitment to teaching and research.

Psychology is taught at many institutions in Australia. The School of Psychological Sciences at ACAP is the first non-university higher education provider to have its curriculum, staff, and resources recognised by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council. We have met the same rigorous high standards required by all institutions providing training for psychologists, and students have the opportunity of training in the discipline and methods of psychology in an inclusive environment that values diversity and is dedicated to psychology and its application. We also complement our focus on training in the scientific discipline of psychology with a range of applied subjects, based on our 25 years of experience, that enhance future employment opportunities.
