About the workshop
This workshop aims to introduce clinicians working with children and adolescents to the range of common anxiety disorders and their impact on psychosocial development. The workshop examines differences in rates of anxiety and other emotional problems between the genders with a view to understanding possible aetiologies. Early warning signs of anxiety disorders as well as presentations of phobic disorders, separation anxiety disorder, social phobia, generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorders in children and adolescents are discussed during the workshop. The final topic in the workshop deals with the management of anxiety disorders in children and adolescents with a special focus on the impact of the school environment on anxiety disorders. Participants are instructed in strategies to help young people deal with their anxiety problems at school.
