Dr Tanya Hanstock is a Senior Clinical Psychologist. She is currently a Senior Lecturer and the Acting Convenor of the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Newcastle. She has many years of clinical experience in assessing and treating young people with bipolar disorder. She has worked in numerous Health settings in community and inpatient services. Dr Hanstock is passionate about disseminating information and awareness of mental health issues in young people.
In 2005 Dr Hanstock established the first Juvenile Bipolar Disorder clinic in Australia, called The Bipolar Program, within the Hunter New England Area Health Service. She developed the assessment, therapeutic and research programs that are used in the clinic and these are now being used as models for setting up services throughout Australia.
This session will focus on understanding how biplolar disorder presents in young people and how to assess and manage the disorder as a member of the treatment team. Developmental differences in symptom presentation, issues of comorbidity as well as risk assessment and management for young people with biplar disorder will be discussed.
