Project 1 and Project 2 provides students with a unique opportunity to work closely with an organisation in planning and implementing a project relevant to the students’ chosen field of study. The project undertaken will be relevant to the human services field, but will not involve human participants. In this third year unit, student will develop skills in project planning, working with stakeholders, and critically analysing the body of literature that is relevant to the topic. In Project 2, the project will be implemented.
Students need to select an appropriate organisation in which to design their project (Project 1) and implement their project (Project 2). Whilst many students find their placement organisation is a good source of inspiration and support for planning and implementing their project, students do not have to choose their placement organisation. If a placement organisation is used, the time spent working on assignments and developing the project is separate to placement hours.
On completion of this unit students should be able to:
a) undertake a needs assessment in an appropriate organisation
b) develop a high quality project proposal that clearly outlines the rationale, brief literature overview, organisational context, aims and intended outcomes
c) undertake an extensive literature search on the project topic, using the library electronic data bases and the resources of the chosen organisation
d) critically analyse the relevant body of literature with regards to areas of agreement and controversy, themes arising from research, gaps in the literature and major contributors to research in this area
e) write a literature review that clearly demonstrates the findings and analysis for the body of literature
The workload for this unit is 9 hours per week.
