Dr Elizabeth Day

Biography

Elizabeth has been a senior lecturer in the School of Counselling at ACAP since its establishment in 2011, where she has held roles as Manager of Academic Programs (Melbourne) (2010-2011), Deputy Head of School (2011-2013) and Academic Head (Melbourne) (2013-2014).  She led course re-accreditation for the Graduate Diploma of Counselling and was the course convener (2013-14). 

Before training in counselling and psychotherapy Elizabeth had 10 years’ experience teaching and researching at the University of Melbourne and Victoria University in the areas of literary and cultural studies, with emphasis on theories of self and agency, phenomenology, gender and sexuality identity. 

Research interests include the mechanisms of mindfulness, field theory and the change process in therapy. Elizabeth has also published on phenomenological ethics, intersubjectivity, and gender and sexuality identity; and she is committed to LGBTI advocacy, leading the development of PACFA's position statement for LGBTI people (2014). 

Elizabeth has practised mindfulness meditation for over 20 years including an intensive burst as an ordained Buddhist monastic (2001-2008). In addition to her academic career she has developed a yoga and meditation studio in New Zealand and runs a private psychotherapy practice with an integrative and intersubjective orientation.
