Create your road map for CAREER success

Times are changing and for the better. These days, career success is about more than just salary, bonuses, and rungs on corporate ladders. It’s also about values, goals and ultimately – what fulfils you.

How do I create a road map for career success?

1. What makes your heart sing

We are all born with natural gifts and interests – whether we know that as children or discover them later in life. A clue to where your career success lies is understanding what you enjoy doing, learning about and what gets you into a flow state.

2. Define your values

Your core values are your beliefs that help guide your behaviour and decision-making. Alignment between your career and core values can help you feel satisfied, happy and fulfilled.

3. Seek out passionate people

Find someone who inspires you and is making a change or successful in your field of interest. Hit them up for a coffee catch-up and ask how they got to where they are. They may not be able to give you an exact blueprint for your roadmap. Still, chances are they’ll be able to share some nuggets of wisdom that help accelerate your journey.

4. Create an action plan

Now it’s time to come up with a plan to get from where you are to where you want to be. Things like enrolling in a course, starting a blog or doing an internship are actionable steps to get you on your path.

5. Just start

A barrier to success is not taking the first step. It’s normal to fear change or compare yourself to those that have already ‘made it’. The truth is, you won’t always know exactly where you’re going or how you’ll get there. But just by starting, you’ll be well on the way to create the career of your dreams.
