Dr Jelena Zeleskov Doric

Biography

Dr Jelena Zeleskov Doric is a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist registered in Europe who works as a Senior Lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Australian College of Applied Psychology. She is also a Sydney Campus Discipline Lead.

Prior to joining ACAP, Jelena worked as a Lecturer in Psychology and Psychological Therapies at Charles Darwin University. Before moving to Australia Jelena was employed as a Research Fellow at the School of Medicine and the Institute for Criminological and Sociological Research in Belgrade. She had her private practice as a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist within Sava Perovic Foundation Centre for Reconstructive Surgery in Belgrade.

Jelena completed a Bachelor of Psychology with Honours, Master in Applied Psychology (Psychotherapy) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD in Psychology – Clinical) degree in Serbia. In addition to her psychology studies, she completed a five-year training program in Gestalt Psychotherapy at the Gestalt Psychotherapy Training Institute Malta, a two-year Master in Gestalt Psychotherapy at the Gestalt Psychotherapy Training Institute Malta and a two-year post-graduate program in Psychopathology and Contemporary Disturbances at Istituto di Gestalt in Syracuse, Italy. Jelena also completed one-year training program in Body Relational Gestalt Psychotherapy in Berlin, Germany. She was also involved in the work delivered by the Centre for Somatic Studies, New York, USA.

Dr Zeleskov Doric is a registered psychologist with AHPRA, PACFA clinical member and accredited PACFA supervisor.

Research

Jelena's research, writing and advocacy focuses on attachment theory, gestalt psychotherapy, spirituality and psychotherapy, resilience and therapeutic factors important in understanding the lives of prisoners and former prisoners. Jelena is also involved in development of Core Competencies of Gestalt Therapy and Case Formulation in Gestalt Therapy projects within the European Association for Gestalt Therapy. So far, Jelena has authored and co-authored over 40 books, book chapters, peer-reviewed papers, national and international conference presentations in the fields of psychology and psychotherapy. Since 2012 she has reviewed academic papers for various international journals. Moving forward, Jelena's research interest is to understand relational gestalt psychotherapy approach and its application within neuroscience.

Teaching

Jelena participated in development and accreditation of Psychotherapy and Psychology courses at Singidunum University Belgrade in cooperation with Sigmund Freud University Vienna from 2008 to 2010. She taught Psychotherapy and Counselling, Clinical Psychology, Epigenetics, Personality Psychology and Self-developmental groups. From 2010 to 2016, she was a trainer and supervisor in Gestalt Psychotherapy Training Institute Belgrade where she taught Gestalt psychotherapy and worked as a clinical supervisor. She also developed a Resilience training “Being With” model and taught at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology in 2018. Furthermore, Jelena is invited as an international faculty member of China Academy of Gestalt Therapy (Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai) for 2019 teaching period.
