Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (VET only)

school of vet

You may be eligible to have your past studies and/or work experience count as RPL or Credit Transfer towards the achievement of units of competency in ACAP courses. This means that you could be exempt from some of the unit of competencies and/or subjects listed in your course sequence guide and be able to complete your qualification in a shorter period of time. Please note that while you may apply to ACAP for an indication of Credit and/or RPL that would be awarded as part of our course you must be an enrolled student with ACAP before you can be awarded any Credit of RPL towards a unit of competency/subject. For further information, visit the full Credit Arrangements Policy.

ANCHOR – Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

What is an RPL?

RPL can give you credit for:

  • Relevant work experience, e.g. related projects, regular duties, in-house training etc.
  • Relevant skills and knowledge you have gained in the past through, for example, volunteer work, awards and  achievements, etc.
  • Any evidence that proves that you have already met the learning outcomes of the unit of competency you are applying for.

Note: You must be a current student with ACAP.

How do I apply?

Step 1: Contact your VET Coordinator

To discuss the process of your potential RPL and to obtain the RPL Kit. You can find contact details here.

Step 2: Collect Evidence

Read through your RPL Kit – this helps you match your previous study/work experience with the relevant units of competency in your course. Start collecting examples of evidence to support your application (e.g. resume, work projects, statement of duties, examples of duties carried out as a volunteer). The following questions might help you with this:

1) Have I received any relevant training (e.g. on-the-job training, community work) that can be used as evidence for RPL?

2) Do I have any recent (3 years) relevant work experience that can be used as evidence?

3) Do I have proof and/or documentation (e.g. resume, work projects, statement of duties carried out as a volunteer)? Good evidence is current, relevant, authentic and transferable!

Step 3: Enrol into the modules

Enroll yourself into the modules in which you are seeking RPL as if it were a normal enrolment.

Step 4: Submit application for RPL

Fill in the Application for RPL(VET) and forward it together with your completed RPL Kit to your VET Coordinator at the relevant campus. This needs to be received at least 3 weeks before the start of the following term.

Is there a fee?

If you are Competent you will incur an RPL fee (this is 50% of the regular module fee)

If you are receiving Fee-Help, this will be covered by this student loan scheme. Please refer to the VET Fee-Help Guidelines for further information.
