If today, you were asked you to briefly describe who you are and what you do as a professional, could you answer in a way that would inspire a prospective client to start working with you? If your answer is “No” or “I’m not sure”, then it’s highly likely that people will not feel confident about your capacity to help them.

Most people progress through their studies with great enthusiasm and often because they possess among other things, good listening skills, naturally empathy and a desire to help people. Some enter this field because they have had positive personal experiences with therapy and others do so from a deep sense of wishing to work in a way that is meaningful and more directly aligned with their values than their current career or profession permits. Whilst these reasons are valid and commendable, they alone are insufficient to lead even an outstanding graduate into a thriving practice.

Undergraduate education is the first valuable step taken on this path and there are additional crucial steps to seeing an initial intention come to fruition.  In this session, Carmen will take you on the express lane to exploring your pathway into a full professional ‘self’ by looking at the influences on the development of your professional identity, where you are now, where you want to go, asking the right questions and considering the appropriate actions that will set you in your desired direction. You will be encouraged to explore what you’ve achieved to date, what you still need, and steps toward developing confidence when functioning in your professional role.

Carmen Nicotra brings her experience as a psychotherapist, supervisor, educator, mentor and business owner to help identify the attributes and strengths that make you valuable to your clients and to clarify how to bring these together in the creation of a distinct, marketable and functional professional self.

Bring your enthusiasm and an open mind so you can take away a clearer idea of the kind of professional you want to be, what you need to do to really step into becoming your working skin, and the self-concepts that might be obstructing your progress. Finally, you will begin to identify the factors that will support your commitment to a continuously developing professional future that honours and validates the intention you brought into the classroom on that very first day.

Registrations will be via Eventbrite and you will receive an email confirming your registration.
