ACAP launches industry-Led master of information technology to equip graduates with skills in emerging and evolving technologies

Melbourne, Australia, 21 June 2023 – In response to the growing demand for highly skilled graduates ready to excel in new roles, the Australian College of Applied Professions (ACAP) is expanding its range of study areas to include Technology.

Today, ACAP is proud to announce the launch of its new Master of Information Technology (MIT), providing students with access to state-of-the-art tools, immersive learning experiences, and the latest advancements shaping the Information Technology (IT) profession, such as AI, blockchain, and cybersecurity.

“In our 40th year of delivering outstanding higher education, we are proud to unveil this ground-breaking course which further solidifies our long heritage and reputation as an institution that prepares students for success beyond the classroom. By equipping graduates with emerging technical skills and the necessary tools and competencies, ACAP continues to shape the workforce of tomorrow,” said George Garrop, ACAP CEO.

The program will be initially offered at ACAP’s newly established Melbourne CBD campus, with three intakes per year to accommodate student needs. Whether pursuing full-time or part-time study, the comprehensive MIT is specifically designed to empower IT professionals seeking to enhance their expertise in evolving and emerging technologies, while also developing crucial collaboration, performance, and leadership skills. Furthermore, individuals looking to transition careers or acquire foundational IT skills within their respective fields will discover a seamless entry point into the technology discipline.

In addition to providing graduates with exposure to emerging technologies, giving them a competitive edge in the job market, ACAP’s MIT emphasises immersive and experiential learning. By adopting a project-based learning approach, the course fosters the development of practical skills that directly align with real-world business and technical challenges, from the early stages of the course. Most units incorporate real-world projects, allowing students to engage firsthand with authentic industry scenarios. Furthermore, students can undertake a client-facing project in the later stages of their studies. These diverse projects serve as inspiration for the final Capstone, a culmination of their learning experience which includes a capstone project. This project is specifically designed to showcase their mastery of the acquired skills and is presented at an industry showcase event, providing a platform for students to demonstrate their expertise.

“As a college, we’re outcomes-focused, so it’s not just about what students learn at ACAP, but what they’re capable of when they graduate,” emphasised Garrop.

“Our practical approach equips students with hours of real-world interaction and insight, so they are prepared to succeed in the workforce upon graduation. We are excited to have the talented Dr. Luke Bozzetto both design and deliver this new course, ensuring that our graduates emerge with applied skills, hands-on confidence, and contemporary expertise that is both industry-recognised and highly sought-after.”

ACAP MIT students, led by course leader and respected IT academic Dr. Luke Bozzetto, have access to a curriculum that is designed to cultivate well-rounded professionals capable of making an immediate impact in their chosen industry. His decade of experience as an academic and accolades including Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academic (SFHEA) make him an ideal mentor for aspiring IT professionals.

“Seeing the excitement and sense of accomplishment on my students’ faces as they secure their first IT jobs is tremendously fulfilling and is one of my motivations for constantly trying to provide the best educational experience that I can,” said Dr. Luke Bozzetto, Course Leader – Information Technologies
