3 Reasons to Attend Your ACAP Orientation

By Lauren Rafter Marketing Strategist – Product & Projects
ACAP Orientation

Congratulations! You’re enrolled at ACAP and ready to start on your new career pathway or you’re expanding on your current career and qualifications. The paperwork is done, and now it’s time for your orientation before classes start.

Based on our research at ACAP, we know that students who attend their orientation sessions are more likely to succeed in their studies.

With this in mind, we highly recommend every student attends. There are three types of sessions at orientation, and you should join all that are relevant to you:

  • General Session (online or on campus)
  • Discipline Session (online)
  • International Student Session (online or on campus). This is mandatory for international students.

If you attend on campus, you’ll receive a goodie bag to take home and have the chance to win an Officeworks voucher lucky door prize! All online sessions include a Q&A at the end, but if you can attend on campus, you will find this invaluable to your learning journey.

Three reasons why you should attend ACAP Orientation

Why is orientation at ACAP so important?

Along with being a student’s rite of passage and your first official activity as an ACAP student, there are a few reasons why you won’t want to miss out.

1. Orientation is vital for a seamless transition to student life

Attending ACAP orientation is a crucial step that we know contributes directly to your educational success. Orientation helps you prepare for your studies in the following ways:

  • Meet key ACAP team members who can assist you while you are studying.
  • Receive guidance about accessing the Student Portal and class spaces.
  • Learn about the support services available to you, including ACAP’s counselling support, Learning Hub, IT Helpdesk, AccessAbility, and other useful resources.
  • Set yourself up for successful study with tips to make the most of your study workspace and manage your time effectively.

2. Make important connections before classes start

Anxious about meeting the other students and staff? Rest assured; many others are too (even if they don’t admit it). Attending orientation allows you to de-mystify the ACAP experience and make valuable ties with other students and your academic and support staff before your classes commence. Many at ACAP find their initial connections become sources of support, information and motivation throughout their course – with the bonus of potential life-long friends and future employment connections.

3. Become familiar with your campus

If you will be attending classes on campus, orientation is the perfect chance to become familiar with the state-of-the-art resources and support services available to you. Work out where your preferred collaboration, study and relaxation spaces might be, connect to the Wi-Fi and know ahead of time the location of your training and lecture rooms, library and Learning Hub. There’s no surprises on your first day of classes and you will know exactly where you need to go. If you are an online student, attending the relevant sessions (online or in person) provides an opportunity to ask questions and find out more about what to expect.

At ACAP, we are excited to be part of your student experience and learning journey. We look forward to seeing you at orientation, either on campus or online.
