ACAP provides industry approved training for prospective supervisors, and masterclasses for current supervisors.

Psychology Supervisor Training
We offer Parts 1, 2 and 3 supervisor training for prospective supervisors seeking Board-approval status, as well as six different supervisor master classes (Part 4), each of which are approved by the Psychology Board of Australia. Our training classes are suitable for a range of prospective and existing Board-approved supervisors, including those wishing to offer supervision for those engaged in the 4+2, 5+1 and higher degree program routes to registration as well as for supervisors of registrars in a range of areas of endorsement.
Please note that materials for the programs, and some of the activities, are conducted via an online class space. Participants will need to access course materials via the online class space and bring along to the course an electronic device such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop.
Part 1: Knowledge Assessment
Course description:
Supervision of provisionally registered psychologists and registrars preparing for endorsement in an area pf practice endorsement is a key professional activity of experienced psychologists. The online self-study modules that make up Part 1 provides the foundation of knowledge required for effective practice of supervision. This includes: contemporary competency based supervision and the associated evidence base; the ethical, legal and professional context to supervision, including relevant Psychology Board of Australia standards, guidelines and policies; and fundamental supervision practices.

Part 2: Two Day Skills Training
Course description:
The Part 2 Skills Training focuses on translation of the knowledge component from Part 1 into skills that support effective supervisory practice. Key skills will be demonstrated and practiced, including those related to: developing a competency based supervision plan; facilitation of supervisee’s competencies through use of interventions such as observation and modelling; evaluating supervisees’ psychological competencies; providing formative and summative feedback; and managing common problems in supervision. Finally, the workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to reflect on the attitudes and values required for sustainable and ethical practice as a supervisor.

Part 3: Competency Based Assessment and Evaluation
Course description:
This online program will provide participants with guidance regarding the preparation of an electronic recording of a simulated supervision session, as well as a written reflection (including a self-evaluation) and development plan outlining their plans to extend their knowledge and skills as part of assuming the role of supervisor.

Part 4: Supervisor Masterclasses
We offer a range of master classes that provide 6 hours of intensive training for existing Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisors who wish to renew their status five years after initial approval.
Our master classes offer:
- Small classes, with a maximum of 14 enrolled
- Video conference master classes for psychologists based in remote areas or in house delivery*
- A stimulating blend of taught content, facilitated group discussion in both large and small groups, exploration of facilitator and participant cases, and role plays
- Offered in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth
Masterclasses
Course description:
Supervision of higher education students and registrars preparing for endorsement in clinical psychology is an important activity undertaken by approved supervisors. The current workshop assists supervisors in understanding the current requirements for these supervisees, and their impact on developing competency based supervision plans, conducting assessments and providing feedback.
Suitable for:
All Board approved supervisors of students undertaking higher degree programs in clinical psychology or registrar programs for area of practice endorsement in clinical psychology.

Course description:
Diagnostic competencies are core to all areas of professional practice, and case conceptualisation is arguably a defining characteristic of professional psychologists. Supervisors are in a privileged position to help supervisees learn how to apply psychological knowledge to these important tasks, as well as the associated relationship and skill competencies. This workshop will focus on how to develop and implement developmentally sensitive competency-based supervision plans in the areas of case conceptualisation and diagnosis for all routes to registration.

Course description:
Meta-competencies such as reflective practice and the scientist-practitioner mindset are key to the successful development of a significant number of specific functional competencies. This workshop will focus on developing and implementing competency-based supervision plans, as well as how to assess the demonstration of these competencies in all routes to registration.

Course description:
Supervision of psychological assessment is an area for which there is little training but great need. This has been in part due to the dominance of psychotherapeutic intervention in Australian clinical practice, the substantial proportion of practitioners who feel under-skilled in psychological testing, and a sparse clinical literature which addresses the specific needs of supervision with respect to assessment training.
