Overview
You care about people and want to help the disadvantaged, empowering them to have a voice. Our CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services (Case Management) affords you the ability to help people improve their lives. You’ll graduate with the practical skills to facilitate case management including; analysing client needs, helping implement strategies to resolve issues, communicating effectively with clients and peers, and supporting client self-management by empowering them with ongoing tools.
Our compulsory on-campus workshops give you the hands-on experience to put your skills and theory into practice. Your 120-hour work placement and 5 hours of peer supervision sessions deliver the confidence and expertise to hit the ground running when you graduate.
ACAP offers student fundamental on campus support for the first three units of this course. Many providers do not offer this optional support, though at ACAP we believe it can make a huge difference.
Students can take advantage of VET student loans for this course, however this will only be granted to students who meet eligibility requirements. A VET student loan debt is a debt due to the Commonwealth until it is repaid.

On-campus workshops form a vital part of the assessment and experiential learning process, providing students with face-to-face training in practical skills. Workshops are via zoom, or on ACAP Sydney only (subject to class sizes).

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, management and other industry providers.
This unit applies to a range of health and community service contexts where workers may communicate face-to-face, in writing or using digital media and work with limited responsibility under direct or indirect supervision.
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish, maintain and evaluate work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area, according to WHS legislative requirements.
This unit applies to workers who have responsibility for WHS as part of their role, including workers with obligations under WHS legislation, persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs), or their officers (as defined by relevant legislation).
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.
It covers the following one units of competency:

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit the student should be able to:

This unit applies to people working in roles with managerial responsibility for legal and ethical compliance in small to medium sized organisations. There may or may not be a team of workers involved.
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

The unit describes the application of knowledge of the broad social and cultural context in which work is planned and implemented in the community services industry. This unit applies to workers who seek to better understand their client groups and issues that impact on the lives of their clients and hence on their delivery of services. This unit examines the broad social, cultural and economic factors which contribute to the makeup of Australian society. It looks at in detail how the application of this knowledge can assist the worker to better understand their client group and the issues that impact on their lives. Australia is a nation of people from different cultures, different experiences and a range of life expectations. It is within the Australian society we will be addressing issues of cultural diversity, cultural safety, social and cultural institutions within Australia, inequality, unemployment, advocacy for clients, government policy and power. These issues will be related to your work in the community services industry and clients. It will also look at policies within your work placement agency and how work practices address some of the issues raised above.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish relationships, clarify needs, and then work collaboratively with people who are living with mental health issues.
This unit applies to support workers in contexts outside the mental health sector, but who come into contact with people with mental health issues. The services and support provided are not mental health specific.

This includes implementing support processes to manage stress and emotional wellbeing of self or colleagues working in varied health and community service contexts. It also involves facilitating structured debriefing sessions to colleagues following incidents with the potential to impact on health and wellbeing. This unit applies to leadership or management roles where the individual provides peer to peer support to colleagues and refers to specialised support services in line with organisation guidelines as required.

Pathways for future study
Students who successfully complete our CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services (Case Management) course will receive credit to enter an ACAP Bachelor course. Typically students who undertake this course choose the Bachelor of Counselling.
