Recently elevated to University College status by the Australian regulator, ACAP now has a new name and logo to match – introducing ‘ACAP University College’.

After more than 40 years, multiple courses, and 25,000 graduates across six Australian campuses, ACAP is entering its newest era as a University College. Its evolution from a small Sydney psychology college in 1983 to one of the country’s largest multi-disciplinary independent higher education providers today is being celebrated with a new name and logo.

ACAP University College replaces the previous name, Navitas Professional Institute Pty Ltd, trading as Australian College of Applied Professions (ACAP). After more than four decades of students, staff, alumni and industry referring to us solely as ‘ACAP’, we have dropped the expanded version for what now becomes a pseudo-acronym, embracing the name ACAP as a bold and familiar brand in its own right.

ACAP University College is the third name change in 40 years. Originally the Australian College of Applied Psychology, ACAP became the Australian College of Applied Professions in 2021 to better reflect our expansion from helping professions into diverse applied disciplines, including management and legal practice.

The new name not only preserves ACAP’s history and legacy, it reinforces the idea that while the institution continues to grow its offerings, reputation and status, it remains grounded in its original mission and values.

ACAP today specialises in delivering accredited courses in psychology, counselling, coaching, criminology, social work, law, and leadership (MBA).

ACAP University College CEO Joseph Anthonysz said, as one of the largest providers of counselling, psychology and human services courses in Australia, ACAP had consciously retained the personalised, supportive approach to education for which it was renowned across the country.

“With a student-centred focus and real-world practical learning opportunities, we know that ACAP’s unique teaching environment provides richer learning opportunities that enable graduates to apply their knowledge immediately in their workplaces,” he said.

“Becoming a University College in July this year hasn’t altered our dedication to small class sizes and industry expert lecturers; it instead has served to reinforce our commitment to this holistic approach, which has led to continuous improvements in student performance, satisfaction and outcomes.

“We look forward to entering this new era as ACAP University College and are proud to be playing an important and ongoing role in transforming how our diverse disciplines are taught, practised and regulated in Australia.”

ACAP was recognised as a University College by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) on Wednesday 24 July, reinforcing its position as a leading provider of quality higher education. Reserved for the highest performing Institutes of Higher Education in Australia, ACAP is one of just eight providers in this category and is the only one delivering a suite of national courses for mental health professions, human services and business.

ACAP’s degrees are accredited by relevant professional bodies and ACAP holds self-accrediting authority for most courses from TEQSA.
