Running a business. Volunteering in youth groups. Playing music. Seeing friends and family. For Aimee, life was already full. But thanks to ACAP’s flexible, supportive, online study, she didn’t have to choose between her passions and her education, she could do it all.
From the outside, Aimee’s schedule was already packed. By the time she finished high school, she had launched her own beauty business, was performing in bands, volunteering regularly with youth programs, and spending time at her family’s farm.
“I always knew I wanted to study psychology and criminology,” Aimee said. “But I was already so busy. I thought I might not be able to do it all.”
That changed when she heard about ACAP University College on the radio. One course in particular caught her attention, a Bachelor of Psychological Science and Criminology, offered entirely online.
“ACAP’s offering was different. The course was online, it was flexible, and it was everything I wanted.”
Aimee enrolled and quickly discovered that ACAP’s approach to online study wasn’t just convenient, it was empowering. It allowed her to structure her education around her lifestyle, not the other way around.
“I’d be studying on the steps at the beach, in between appointments at my beauty business, or after volunteering sessions,” she said. “It meant I could keep doing all the things I loved, without putting my future on hold.”
That flexibility also gave Aimee the chance to gain practical experience during her degree. She began working in administration at a psychology clinic, where she could apply her knowledge and develop her skills in a real-world setting.
“Because I could study flexibly, I was able to take on more hours at work and get amazing experience. It really helped me grow professionally while I was still studying.”
Throughout her course, Aimee felt supported and encouraged by both her teachers and peers.
“People always asked if I missed the classroom experience, but honestly, the teachers were so engaging, and they really wanted us to succeed.”
Aimee graduated with excellent marks, a degree with two specialisations, and with a clearer sense of direction. Now, she’s looking toward postgraduate study and a future career combining her academic knowledge with her lived experience supporting young people.
“I’m passionate about helping others, and my degree has opened up so many possibilities, from counselling to criminal justice. I feel like I have so many career routes available to me now.”
Whether she goes on to become a counsellor, work for charities, or pursue postgraduate research, Aimee knows the foundation she built at ACAP will serve her and the community well.
“Studying at ACAP gave me the skills and the confidence to follow my own path. I was always encouraged to be my best, and that really made a difference.”
